I can not answer for Oklahoma, but Texas, shots are averages of 100 m to a maximum of 150 meters. Exterior 200 meters in some areas of dense vegetation, you may be lucky to reach 50 meters. Not to say that some hunters do not do more, but that is what most hunters shoot in this area. Thus, the 243 WSSM should do well. Make sure you know how to shoot, as with the placement of the ball is 243 WSSM button. It is not hard enough to simply disablier as mere effects of hydrostatic and nobody likes to chase a trail of blood, but it happens to everyone at some point in time.

It is a bit light for my taste, but a good choice. When you talk about long shots in open country would revise 7mm. Shoot faster and flatter, and you can use for big game like elk.
